Налог, предназначенный дополнить подоходный налог. Путем решения акционеров о сохранении прибылей в корпорации и о невыплате дивидендов можно отсрочить выплату подоходного налога, который акционеры должны лично уплатить при выплате дивидендов. При подобном накапливании доходов владельцы акций могут получить доход путем продажи части своих акций и выплаты только налога на доход от прироста капитала. Чистая прибыль компании, которая реинвестируется (см. Plough back), а не распределяется среди акционеров в виде дивидендов. Нераспределенная прибыль образует важный источник финансирования инвестиций в основной и оборотный капитал. Она также увеличивает стоимость акций компании и величину ее резервов.
